                        Recently Added Stuff

This page is for anything that I have worked on recently, whether it is an in progress addition, new gallery pics, a new tool, or even a  kit I purchased with a review. So check back to see whats new.

7/12/2014

This is the Bronco Kit . Decided to add the trailers and mines. The trailers were from the  old Tamiya 20mm Flak 38 gun kit that I converted to carry the mines. Added  basswood planks and weathered with chalk pastels. The mines were scratched built from wooden  balls,Evergreen plastic stock, and copper wire. The mines are on old tires which are from the Tamiya Flak kit and the tires on the trailers are from an Opel Blitz Truck.( I think). The Idea of the mines on a small trailer was from another modeler that I saw on Missing-Lynx.com. It was an incredible job and I wish I knew his name so I could give him proper credit. The base was made out of a plank of cedar that I rescued from a construction site dumpster and ran it through my router table.

Spinosaurus        Pegasus Kit         Scale 1/24

This is the new kit from Pegasus and I have to say it is very well done. The rear legs fit so well there is no seam to fill. I have many dinosaur kits that I have collected over the past few years and I have to say this is an awesome kit.

This is an awesome topic that Takom took on, parts fit well, and if you are going to build it straight from the box it will probably be enjoyable. But if you are like me and want an accurate model for display there is a good bit of work ahead of you. I have not built any other kits from Takom, so I was surprised to find some really big flaws. First, is the ammunition winch is to close to the rear ladders that the winch handles could not be cranked without hitting them. It has to be moved over and forward. Second, the winch itself is  poorly molded in detail that it looks like a coil of copper pipe rather than a spool of steel cable. So the ribs have to sanded smooth and string (that looks like cable when painted )  is wound around spool and then run under platform via a pulley(which has to be scratch built) to the ammunition boom. Third, the winch handles are too long. Fourth, the breech is not closed in, so pieces of plastic have to be added to the area where the shell goes in to make it accurate. Fifth, the shell( they only give you one) is not molded accurately( it's wrong) and they don' t give any propellant cartridges in the kit. The shell will have to be corrected, more made, and cartridges scratch built. Sixth, rivets are missing in various places which will be corrected with Tichy railroad rivets. Seventh, there are cables that go between the base under the wheels to the arched geared base at the back of the gun( probably to keep the gun from pulling away from its base after repeated rocking while being fired). Scratch building the cables and cable mounts will correct this. If you go on-line and research the gun you will see these inaccuracies.

This Russian tank was built in 1960 to survive a nuclear blast wind storm. They only made a few for testing. They believed that a small( there is nothing small about atomic bombs) nuclear battle would develop between the USA Russia, probably because we were developing and testing the Atom Cannon. I think it is a cool looking tank and wanted to try building it. Also it would give me an excuse to try my hand at sculpting a 1/35th figure to go with it.

February 2017                                                              Model Work Stand For Cars & Trucks

This is a model work stand I made from simple materials in my workshop. Aluminum angle iron, 3/4 inch pine board, 1/4 inch metal rod, alligator clips from a cheap magnifier holder, and various machine screws, wing nuts, and washers. This versatile stand allows me to put a 1/24 car or truck up to a 1/8 car model car kit. Taking one end of the rod allows me to add as many alligator clips as needed. it rotates 360 degrees so access to the entire kit is possible.
This is an apocalyptic truck that I wanted to try to make from a 1/24 AMT Peterbilt 359 truck kit. Made a mold of the 1/35 Scud Missle truck tires from Trumpeter and casted up enough tires to do the truck and trailer. Will post more pictures with more progress.

July 2017    !!!! Finished!!!!                                                                                 Cookie Monster                      Sesame Street Freak              Resin Kit - Cookie!                                                  Scale 1/6                               Sculptor -  Monster Dork Studios -Karl Libecap

This a wonderful subject, revealing the gifted imagination of the sculptor. I purchased this kit at JersyFest Model show a couple of years ago and knew as soon as I saw it that it was going to be part of my collection. It is a simple kit - 7 pieces, there were some nasty seam lines on the main body to remove but was worth the effort.
